Specialists and managers

  • Specialists and managers

At STRATEC SE, we are always on the lookout for talented specialists and managers who share our passion for medical technology.

As a cutting-edge technology company, we focus above all on technical and biological disciplines for our extensive development department. From system architecture to design engineering and software development through to project management and system integration – all our activities are in-house. Alongside our development departments, we of course also offer vacancies in our back office. After all, no company can function without HR, finance, IT, and procurement departments. They keep our company’s motor running. One particularly important department at our Birkenfeld location is production, together with production-related departments. Our specialists in the assembly, stocking, and incoming and outgoing goods departments ensure that the systems we develop are flawlessly assembled and securely shipped.

In all our departments, we looking forward to welcoming new colleagues who can contribute new ideas and fresh perspectives to STRATEC’s existing team. What about you? Are you ready for the next step in your career?

Our staff tell us about exciting projects, international cooperation, and an inspiring working atmosphere. Find out at first hand why STRATEC SE is the ideal employer for ambitious specialists and managers.

  • What does your career at STRATEC look like so far?

I decided to end my career in the hotel sector and, in October 2021, launched my new career at STRATEC SE as an employee in our reception area. A year and a half later, I received an in-house offer to move to the legal department and, even without any prior knowledge, set out in an entirely new direction in my work. I seized the opportunity right away and have since worked as an assistant in the legal department, where I am the first point of contact for legal matters. I also work as a Junior Compliance Officer in Birkenfeld, where I help raise awareness for compliance among new and existing staff.

  • What do you like best about STRATEC?

What I most appreciate about STRATEC is the openness, friendliness, and respect staff show to each other. I received a very warm welcome and was accepted into the team from the very outset. That way, I immediately felt part of the company. And that made it very easy to find my way around and settle in quickly

  • Which skills have you newly gained and/or enhanced?

I had very little to do with SAP applications in the hotel sector. That is definitively one skill I have improved at STRATEC. Not only that, the change of department and discipline means I have learned a great deal of new things and gained experience with compliance and legal matters. Some examples here are independently managing training sessions, correctly handling compliance cases, renewing and advancing processes, and contract filing.

  • What aspects of your workday do you enjoy most?

The new tasks which arrive on my desk each day are highly varied. But of course I also enjoy the lunch break. There you can meet colleagues and share experiences, whether that means going for a walk in the nearby wood, meeting in our staff canteen, or eating at a nearby restaurant.

  • What does your career at STRATEC look like so far?

My career at STRATEC has many aspects. I joined the company via a temporary employment agency in 2014 and started out in incoming goods inspection. Two years later, I was offered a permanent contract and, in 2017, I accepted a new challenge as team leader for incoming goods and initial sample inspection. Over the years, I had the chance to further prove myself and took over various special roles, such as SAP Business Process Owner (BPO) and Global Process Owner for the incoming goods/initial sample inspection processes. Since 2023, I have been Deputy Director of Production at the Birkenfeld location. I am proud and grateful for the trust that STRATEC has placed in me over the years. And that motivates me even more for the future.

  • Did you have steep learning curves or any disastrous moments that you can now laugh about?

The standard I set for my team and for myself is always to be up to date. The world keeps turning, and new technologies are being developed and new requirements introduced for the way we implement activities. To do justice to these changes, alongside business initiatives you also need personal qualities, such as self-motivation and interest. Fear of change is a universal phenomenon. To grow further, though, you also have to find the courage to leave your comfort zone.

  • Can you tell us about your day-to-day tasks?

We perform quality checks on all initial samples and engineered parts procured by STRATEC on a serial basis. In the incoming goods and initial sample inspection department we are responsible for all metrological tests. As team head, I am responsible for the team’s day-to-day organization and capacity management. That also involves chairing our shop floor board, where I gather all information relevant for the day. I then report this to the next board up and to production management.

  • What do you most enjoy about your work? And what is the overall atmosphere like at work?

My role means I have very many interfaces with numerous other departments. This internal network provides me with in-depth insights into the bigger picture. I especially enjoy working in the team and learning from each another.  And I identified with the technical aspect of my work from the very outset. I have always been aware of the importance and responsibility involved in this activity. We make sure that only materials that comply with the relevant specifications go to production or are delivered to our customers. This way, we also play our part in making sure that STRATEC maintains its high quality standards.

  • How important is your work to you?

The medical product industry as a whole helps improve the quality of people’s lives. For me, it is a privilege to work at STRATEC and be part of this industry that directly impacts on people’s health. At STRATEC, I identify errors and problems and help developers improve their firmware. That is one reason why I see my work as important. Not just that, my work is also very important as it contributes to the continuous development of our products and plays an essential role in improving customer satisfaction.

  • Which skills have you newly gained or enhanced at STRATEC?

At STRATEC, I have been able to learn new technical skills. In particular, I have found out about embedded systems and firmware. Before joining STRATEC, I had a purely IT and software background as, in my previous jobs as a web/software tester, I had nothing to do with hardware. That changed with my role at STRATEC. I had the opportunity to gain experience testing embedded systems and software, a move which in turn extended my skills. My colleagues were always on hand to support me with their expertise and experience and helped me cope well with my tasks. Over and above that, my interpersonal communication and cooperation skills have improved, as my role involves working with different colleagues. Two examples here are the feedback I provide to developers on my tests and the support I offer to other departments with their module tests.

  • Apart from the work, what is it like on a human level to work at STRATEC?

I have got to know colleagues of various nationalities and backgrounds and found new friends. It is interesting to find out more about differences between people, but also about what they have in common.

  • Have you recommended STRATEC as an employer to others? And if so, why?

I have recommended STRATEC to some of my friends. The medical technology sector is fascinating. It is also fulfilling to work in this area, as you are directly involved in improving people’s health. STRATEC offers a good working environment, friendly colleagues, and a good work-life balance. In addition, at STRATEC I have benefited from various opportunities to learn more and develop skills for my own career.

  • What is your area of specialism? When and how did your career at STRATEC begin?

I began my career at STRATEC in 2017 as a vacation assistant in the HR department. Back then, I did not really know what direction I would like to take in my work. My activities in the HR department then ignited my interest in HR. After that, I opted to study business administration majoring in HR. During my studies, I repeatedly returned to STRATEC as a student trainee. Over the years, I could expand my knowledge and gain practical experience in HR. And that made it possible to move seamlessly from working as a student trainee to a full-time position at STRATEC.

  • What aspects of your job do you like most?

What I particularly like about my role is the cooperation across departments with a whole variety of colleagues. That means I come into contact with different teams and perspectives. In addition, as a young staff member at STRATEC I have also been able to take over various projects. That makes for an interesting change to my day-to-day work and enables me to keep developing my skills.

  • What is it about your role that makes it interesting for you?

In HR, no day is like any other. For me as an HR generalist, my areas of responsibility range from recruiting and onboarding new staff members through to handling everyday inquiries. My role is never monotonous and I am constantly involved in different aspects of HR activities. Alongside that, I also work as a trainer and contact partner for our students.

  • What advice would you give to anyone who has just graduated and would like to start working in our industry?

Go for a career that matches your passions and interests. That will help you not only to grow as a person but also form a key basis for making a success of your career.

  • What made you decide to start out at STRATEC?

I was positively surprised that STRATEC actively contacted me. That showed me that STRATEC not only supports experienced colleagues but also offers young people the opportunity to develop their careers. This openness, as well as seeing that the company attaches value to developing young talent and granting real opportunities, was the key factor behind my decision to start out at STRATEC as a student trainee in software development. My decision was also significantly influenced by STRATEC’s corporate culture, with its focus on growth and innovation.

  • And have you already been on a business trip in your role?

The software development team operates both in Birkenfeld and in Cluj-Napoca in Romania. For me, it was very important to get to know the colleagues in Romania in person as well. So I was delighted that I, as a student trainee, also had the opportunity to go on a business trip to Cluj-Napoca. This experience not only helped extend my network, but also deepened my understanding of the international aspects of our company.

  • What makes your role at STRATEC interesting?

As a student trainee at STRATEC, I have the opportunity to try out my skills in various areas and find those that interest me. My role offers me the chance to gain practical experience and at the same time put my theoretical knowledge into practice. The variety of tasks makes my work especially interesting, as does the possibility of working with others on various projects. Not only that, I am constantly learning new things and discovering new interests and skills.

  • Are there any aspects of your role as student trainee that particularly surprised you?

At STRATEC, I am seen “not just as a student”, but as a fully-fledged colleague. The appreciation shown to me and the trust placed in me were a real motivation. It was surprising to see how I was directly involved in product-related projects and given the chance to really make a difference. This appreciation and the level of integration in the team far exceeded my expectations.

  • What made you decide to come to STRATEC?

STRATEC offers many interesting training positions, so I did not hesitate to apply. The appliances that STRATEC designs and manufactures play an important role in medicine and can have a crucial impact on patients’ health. All that convinced me that STRATEC was the right company for my vocational training.

  • What do you most enjoy about your job?

What I most enjoy about the training is the interaction between practical and theoretical tasks. My work is highly varied and very interesting. During the training, I spend time in all relevant departments for technology and thus find out more about them. As a trainee, I am also allowed to spend time on my own projects and give free rein to my creativity. The atmosphere at work is very relaxed and friendly. You are made to feel at home right away and are glad to be part of the team.

  • And do you have the opportunity to contribute your own ideas as a trainee?

I can contribute my own ideas in many parts of the training. People are always open to suggestions for improvements and, in the team as well, my ideas are taken seriously, discussed, and often also implemented in the projects. That also enables me to learn a great deal about teamwork and project management. The possibility of having my own ideas factored in makes the work especially exciting for me and is a real motivation.

  • Are there any aspects of the training at STRATEC that surprised you?

As well as working in various departments and tackling my own projects, in the training program I also have a great deal of time to take care of my school work. After suitable agreement, for example, I have time to prepare for various class tests and even receive support from my trainers. I really appreciate this support, as it helps me to prepare better for my exams. Not only that, there are special workshops and training sessions that provide me with additional knowledge and skills. I feel very well supervised as a trainee and can focus all my energy on the tasks I have to deal with.
